A face familiar to Weaverville Primary School students will soon be seen by a wider audience.
Vicki Coulson, who volunteers as a “Foster Grandparent” through the Land of Sky Regional Council, will be featured in a series of TV commercials promoting the program.
Ironically, Coulson started volunteering at the school after seeing a similar commercial shortly after moving to Weaverville.
“We moved from Michigan about a year-and-a-half ago,” said Coulson. “Our grandchildren are still there, and I missed being around them.”
“Miss Vicki,” as she’s known around the hallways, spends two days a week at the school. One day she’s with a kindergarten class. The other she spends with first graders.
“It’s really great to work one-on-one with students who might need extra help,” she shared. “It’s amazing how in just a few months you can see them make tremendous progress.”
The Foster Grandparent commercials will air later this spring on WLOS-TV, though Miss Vicki is already a celebrity around the school.
“Students want to take turns holding my hand when we walk down the hall, or sitting next to me at lunch. The other day, a girl asked me if I could come to her house for a play date.”
